Does a Christian follow Jesus or Pat Robertson?

As I understand it, the standard for a Christian is whether you do what Christ says, not what Pat Robertson says.

What does Christ say? Christ says "Love your neighbor as yourself" and "Love your enemy."
Pat Robertson says, "Kill Hugo Chavez (the democratically elected leader of Venezuela)."

I think it is fair to say that someone has lost their way, and it isn't Jesus Christ.

Following Jesus

I agree. As Christians, that is who we should be following; and the best indication of what that means comes from his own words in the bible.

Thank you for raising this very important distinction Zeus.

I look forward to our continuing to explore this radical notion of following Jesus in the days, months and years to follow.

One Other Thing Zeus...

Unlike Pat Robertson, Jesus never invested in diamond mines. See this link: http://ctlibrary.com/8422

Sounds like Pat has his priorities out of whack.

Whom to Follow

Years ago, before we had kids, my sister-in-law despaired that we ever would and gave us a gift subscription to "Focus on the Family", I suppose to inspire us to have a family. As a social science experiment, I saved the monthly magazine for a year, and tallied all the references to the following names: God, Jesus, Lord, Holy Spirit (any of them) or James Dobson. Who do you suppose got more ink from that "ministry's" press: the Deity, or Dobson?

Self-idolatry runs the Religious Right

Rockadayjohnny, I'm betting Dobson by a long shot to your question. I'm going to post the latest little comment from good ole Too-pat Rober-tson on the main blog, but here's a hint when asked what he prayed for, do you think he prayed for an end to world hunger, to war, or to change the US Supreme Court? What do you think is the number one plank for the political Religious Right? It's a trick question. It isn't abortion, or gays, or guns. Stumped? Try tax cuts. So much for giving unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Remember Oral Roberts saying God was going to "call him home" unless he got some huge infusion of cash? Will we learn? Cash, political power, and Jesus don't go very well together, because they usually get honored in roughly that same order. Check out the Christian Coalition list-- http://www.cc.org/issues.cfm. Nothing in it about poverty, nothing about suffering, plenty increasing their power over others. What was this about putting no other gods before me? That's where Jesus comes in. When offered adoration, he directed worshipers to a higher calling. Not so with the self-idolizing Dobsons and Robertsons of this world. So let us follow Jesus's example in faith, so people can see and feel the choice they can make.
