Rapid Response: Vote No on Negative Immigration Amendments
We Are Coming Down to the Wire! Please Call to STOP Negative Amendments From Being AddedTake ActionThe Senate seems to be winding down their debate on immigration and thus far, we have been able to hold back many of the negative amendments that have come up for votes. THANKS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION. We ask that you help us today by making calls to both your senators on some extremely important amendments. Please call (202-224-3121) today and ask your senators to: 1 Vote NO on the Sessions amendment #4108 which would deny EITC benefits to newly legalized immigrants . It is an insult to all American families that depend on the Earned Income Tax Credit for survival and would be a total administrative nightmare for the IRS. This amendment would place new documentation burdens on citizens as well as immigrants who would have to prove their immigration status, hurting families with children. 2. Vote NO on the Chambliss Amendment # 4084. This amendment would make the AgJOBS earned legalization program unworkable by denying most farmworkers access to it. Eligibility requirements would be set using standards that would deprive most farm workers of the chance to enter the earned legalization program, or if they entered, the chance to earn permanent immigration status.3. Vote NO on the Cornyn Amendment # 4097. This amendment would essentially keep millions of people from applying to change their immigration status because the information on their applications would not be kept confidential, leaving applicants vulnerable to enforcement and prosecution. It is reasonable for Congress to address the confidentiality issue and these protections are already found in the Hagel-Martinez compromise.
