This summer, progressives across the country are coming together for an exciting event that we thought you would be interested in.The Center for Progressive Leadership Action Network is hosting its first National Network Training on Tuesday, July 18th designed to give progressives the skills they need to generate earned media coverage for their campaigns and issues. The event will take place in house parties across the country and will use an innovative combination of video training, live conference call with a media expert, and small group interactives. Not only will the evening be a chance to learn about generating earned media coverage, but it will also be an exciting opportunity to connect with local activists from other campaigns and get linked to opportunities for direct action. Progressive organizations all over the country are getting involved in order to help make this a truly movement-wide event. However, we need individual leaders like you to step up and host house parties in your communities. Can you help by being a host on Tuesday, July 18th?Click here to host a house party training in your area To host, you don't need to know anything about working with the media. We will provide all the materials for the house party and give you everything you need to be an effective host. However, the application process is only open for a short period of time, so apply as soon as possible.At the training, you and your guests will learn the best methods for getting local media attention, including pitching stories to reporters, event logistics, and expanding the coverage of your event. It will also be a great chance to meet activists from other campaigns and get linked to direct action opportunities. After the training, every participant will be invited to join an online community where you can participate in discussion boards, access more in-depth training resources, connect with other participants, and get linked to progressive campaigns and organizations. Hosting is easy. All you’ll need to do is:

• Have a TV or computer to show the training video (which you can have mailed to you or download from the internet after you apply to be a host).
• Have a working speaker phone to join the live conference call.
• Facilitate a small group session at the end of the training. (You will receive everything you need in order to be a good facilitator).
• Invite anyone you know who might be interested (but a handful of progressive organizations will also help with the recruitment).

This event is the first in a three-part series of National Network Trainings that the Center for Progressive Leadership Action Network is running this summer and fall. The series focuses on developing the skills of progressive activists, connecting individuals from different communities, and providing opportunities for direct action. Media coverage is one of the best tools we have for holding the administration and Congress accountable for their failures—and for spreading progressive values.
