Dr. Judea Pearl to Appear at Grace Cathedral
San Francisco - Dr. Judea, Pearl, father of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl and President of the Daniel Pearl Foundation (www.danielpearl.org) will speak at Grace Cathedral's Forum, Sunday, Â September 11, 2005 at 9:30am in Gresham Hall on the crypt level of the Cathedral (www.gracecathedral.org) Â located at 1100 California Street in San Francisco. Bay Area residents of all religions and creeds are invited to attend.
Entitled  "Building Mutual Respect in a Post 9/11 World," this special Forum commemorates the 4th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
In 2002, the world was shocked when journalist Daniel Pearl was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan. Since then, his family has sought to address the root causes of this tragedy using Daniel's belief in friendship and respect for people of all faiths and cultures.
"Daniel's father Judea will be discussing initiatives to foster open East-West dialogue, how his son utilized music to reach across the cultural divide, and how people from all faiths and belief systems can unite in a post 9/11 world," explained Alan Jones, Dean of Grace Cathedral. "The Pearl family's unshaken belief in the need for tolerance and respect for people of all cultures completely dovetails with the Cathedral's mission to be a community gathering place where practitioners of all belief systems are welcome."
Khaldoun A. Baghdadi of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission will present a mayoral proclamation to the Pearl family at the conclusion of the Forum. Â
"My family has strong ties to the Bay Area and I am honored to participate at such a prestigious institution on such an important day," said Judea Pearl. "Our mission at the Daniel Pearl Foundation is to promote cross-cultural understanding through Dannyπs ideals concerning journalism, music, and innovative communications.  The Forumπs format - combining one on one discussion with a public question and answer period- is a perfect example of the kind of dialogue that Danny believed in."
Dr. and Mrs. Pearl will be signing their award-winning book, "I Am Jewish: Reflections On the Last Words of Daniel Pearl", a collection of essays edited by Judea and Ruth Pearl (Jewish Lights Pub. 2004) from 10:30am- 11:00am following the program.
