My Faith calls me to Texas

So what's a nice Catholic girl from upstate NY doing in Texas?
Hoping to make a difference in the world. After a few moments of deliberation, a few weeks back I accepted a job that would transplant me from what I knew and held familiar to a place I had been only once before-- Texas. Believe it or not the red state, blue state, purple state conversation had nothing to do with my choice. (Although I must admit, it was one of those things that made me go hmmm...)
I moved cross country a few weeks ago in order to accept an opportunity to serve as a Campus Director and Success Coach. The job is at a Catholic University, where much of the population is 1st generation college students. And although the time frame for my move was pretty absurd, I found myself feeling like I simply had to transplant my whole life and move.
For starters, I'm Catholic, you know? & though I did not choose to go to a Catholic University, I was seeped in Catholic schools from kindergarden straight on through to High School.
What's more, the fact that this school does have so many 1st generation college students was very compelling to me. Although I am not a 1st generation college student, I am a 1st generation college student in the U.S. and as such, I didn't have a lot of the context that many of my peers in college had. In a lot of ways I was lost.
I am very clear that I got lucky. I was fortunate to find throughout my time in school a coach. Were it not for the support provided by these unsung heroes at my Alma Mater I am not sure I would have made it through.
So when I was offered the opportunity to work for a company who's sole focus is helping students make it through school and make it through in a way that they not merely survive, but actually thrive, I was floored-- especially when I heard that this opportunity would come in the form of a Catholic campus in Texas.
Thus here I am, called by my faith to be in Texas. Red, blue, purple, green or yellow, who knows, but whatever the case a committed progressive Christian called to serve.
These students are our future and what's most inspiring to me is that they too are called to serve.
