Why Rush Is Wrong About Parkinson’s Patients
Friends, this paragraph was from an E-Mail I received from a fellow Stem Cell activist. If anything, this further defines the base vulgarity of Rush Limbaugh.
“A very inventive advocate/artist among us, Herb Heinz, has put up on youtube.com a short video of several PD patients to bring home the reality of Parkinson's Disease to everyday people. It was conceived as a response to the claims that Michael J. Fox was "acting" or "faking it" or exaggerating his symptoms in recent stem cell spots on tv. Without directly referring to MJF or the controversy, the viewer will hopefully make the connection. It is a work in progress, and anyone with an interest is encouraged to view it and comment on youtube.

Earlier this week on The Today Show, Matt Lauer said words to the effect that "Rush was only what many of us were privately thinking."
As a person whose grandfather died with Parkinson's Disease, I can tell you that Matt Lauer is bordering on cluelessness. Copy the link and E-Mail it to Lauer and let him know that he should never validate the ill-founded conclusions of a vulture such as Rush Limbaugh.
You can reach Matt Lauer by sending it to: today@nbc.com. Mark in the subject box, "Attn: Matt Lauer."

The Well-Founded Practice of Thinking Before You Speak...
I personally think there could be a blog entitled "Why Rush is Wrong About _______", for there is a plethora missing facts in every broadcast this man makes. Rush is the mouthpiece of those in power - those who claim to hold the monopoly on morality and ethics. I have family members that listen to him on a regular basis - one of them happens to be a minister. How any minister or person who claims to follow Jesus can listen to this man and agree with him is literally beyond me. If Rush is the "poster child" of the neo-conservative movement, then I think I'll have to pass on it. I was very disappointed in Matt Lauer's comments over the campaign commerical featuring Fox. For Lauer to even attempt to give creedence to Limbaugh's outlandish and ignorant remarks shows a complete lack of understanding on his part about the disease and the side effects of its treatments.Perhaps a good policy for Lauer and Limbaugh would be for them to remain silent until they have all the facts. But this will not happen - especially for Rush. For if Rush remained silent before having all the facts, his whole show would consist of nothing but dead air and commericals. (Don't feel bad for thinking it; I'd stand up and cheer on that day too.)
Question for Jarrod
Jarrod, thanks for this post! I'm curious... You write,
" I have family members that listen to him on a regular basis - one of them happens to be a minister. How any minister or person who claims to follow Jesus can listen to this man and agree with him is literally beyond me."
I wonder-- have you ever asked him about it? & if so, what's his response?
Good Comment, Jarrod
Here's the problem: mainstream media types such as Matt Lauer are lazy and careless (just look at what The New York Times' Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich and Kay Seelye did to Al Gore in 2000; they did very little fact-checking and often repeated GOP spin as researched truth) while folks such as Rush Limbaugh play to that lack of effort.
Furthermore, shows such as Today have become too concerned with news as entertaiment. Sadly, the Edward R. Murrows, Walter Cronkies and Edward Neumanns are from a past, but better day of jounalism.
Careless & Lazy?
Or is something else going on?
I don't know Frank... I'm not sure that this is just about lack of effort. I think you're spot on re news as entertainment.
There is effort-- it's just that the effort is going into other things rather than bringing us the news. (Making lots of money.)
Like the song says,
"Where have all the good journalists gone?"
& what can we do about it?
& beyond that how do we shift the structures that exist and the cultural context around news and journalism?
I think that alternative channels, i.e., the blogosphere, citizen journalism, etc. are shifting the context but there is still a long way to go...
Don't Forget Olbermann
NYGAribaldi...agree with you on the state of the media, but Olbermann has been very Murrow-esque recently.
Like the Alamo Olbermann should not be forgotten!
Steve- agree with you completely!
