Rapid Response: Supreme Court hears Global Warming Case - Will Congress?

Supreme Court Global Warming Case Dear Friend:  "The Earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof."  Psalm 24:1Today the Supreme Court takes up a landmark case that could change the current US policy on Global Warming. In total, twelve states, three major cities, and American Samoa are filing suit against the EPA for not regulating emissions for new motor vehicles, in direct violation of the Clean Air Act. As people of faith, we are called to protect all of God’s creation. There is now a consensus among faith leaders, scientists, and government officials that global warming is real and that creation is in jeopardy. But we have an opportunity to do something about it!While many agree that it is a major concern, we need action by Congress to assure that God’s creation will be preserved for future generations. Take a moment NOW to urge your lawmakers to take action to protect creation. Why write today?  Because leaders in Congress are setting their agendas, and our earth is simply too important to be treated as a political item for trade.  Let's begin today - as the Supreme Court begins its case and before the new Congress convenes - to let lawmakers know that the earth is NOT a Washington poker chip, NOT big oil's ATM, and decidedly NOT for sale.  Blessings to you for all you do - for others and for your mother (earth!)Vince Isner and the FaithfulAmerica Team Send a letter to the following decision maker(s): Your Congressperson Your Senators Below is the sample letter:Subject: Let us Lead the World in Curbing Global WarmingDear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],As you are aware, the Supreme Court today is taking up a landmark case involving the EPA's alleged failure to regulate auto emmissions, a potential violation of our nation's clean air act. This critical case not only points to the importance of the enforcement of existing laws, but underscores the need for every branch of government to boldly address the compelling threat of global warming. The Court's decision in this case is vital, yes, but Congress must not feel its work is finished on this issue. I am writing to urge you as a member of Congress to look at this issue anew and face the overwhelming evidence before us all. Congress' previous policy, led by President Bush, has been wholly mistaken on this matter, and I ask that you begin to put it to rights. We will not be given a second chance to fix short-sighted laws based on political compromises. As a person of faith and conscience, I ask you to recognize that we the people are stewards of ! the natural world - God's creation - and to take every action necessary in this brief window to help reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. A clear and bold policy that reduces carbon emissions, the main contributor to global warming, will protect God's Earth and God's people. Scientists report that global warming has led to more severe natural disasters, such as hurricanes, droughts, floods, disease epidemics, and wildfires. Global warming impacts are expected to be disproportionately felt by our most vulnerable communities, including those living in poverty and developing nations. The US is the largest contributor of greenhouse gases, and as a nation, we need to accept responsibility in addressing our own emissions. Let us lead the world in protecting our world, beginning with new and history-changing policies that will help insure life on our planet will continue. Sincerely,You
