Christians, Barak Obama and AIDS
This was a blog that I posted on the faithful democrats web site to show my support for Barak Obama's attempt at bringing Evangelical Christians to the forefront of the fight against AIDs. Recently Barak Obama went to Rick Warren's megachurch to speak to the congregation about AIDS and how everyone needs to be part of the solution. I know that many Christians do not want to associate with Barak because of his views on abortion, and have decided they will not address this issue with Barka Obama unless the issue of abortion is addressed. That is sad that we can't have issues that we all agree are a problem because of a few very divisive issues. There is also a feeling that AIDs is punishment for bad behavior. Many Christian conservatives want people to behave in a sexually responsible manner, i.e., no pre- or extra-marital sex. But there are a lot people who are infected with AIDS who don't have a choice. The 13 year old girl who is the sixth wife of a 40 year old man in Africa does not have a choice; the baby whose mom did not get AIDS medication and now had the disease did not have a choice; the woman who is faithful to her no -good cheating husband does not have a choice, someone who is raped by someone who has AIDS does not have a choice...there are a lot of innocents in this situation. And the issue of premarital sex is long over. We are not going back to a time where most people waited until marriage...if there was ever a time. I honestly don't know one person in my family who waited until they were married to have sex. The unmarried couples who go to your church is most likely having premarital sex, Your adult children are probably having pre-marital sex.....whether you admit it or not. People do not deserve to die because they have premarital sex! That is not a Christian attitude at all. AIDS is a serious and devastating problem and if Jesus were here, guess who he would be healing and living with??? Read the gospels.

Thanks Kristie
Kristie,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one. The religious fundamentalists that decried Obama going to Rick Warren's church were just ridiculous. We have a global crisis on our hands and instead of coming together to deal with the crisis, folks the Family Research Council choose to divide based on their narrow agenda.
Looking forward to more posts from you.
