Colmes is a Fop!

Please don't tell us that Alan B. Colmes "rocks." He is one of those Fox fop liberals who are chosen because they are easy Right-wing fodder. If you want liberals that truly rock, read Joe Conason, Marie Cocco, Stephen Holmes, Richard Sheer or Paul Krugman: they are the real McCoy.
And there is a damn good reason why some pundits who are thought of as "liberals" really aren't--or are very counter-productive. To see what I mean just click here as well as here.

My memory of Colmes
was him falling asleep during Obama's speech at Wallis's conference. He's not very helpful to the liberal cause...he buys into most of Fox's conservative frames and is set up to give the appearance of fair and balanced.
Yup.
Right on, Brother Stephen. He is merely a prop for Sean Hannity, designed to give the illusion of balance. What's more, his book on liberalism was so stock and cliche, it added nothing to the discourse.

They must have this wisdom in order that they may beguile, deflect, harness and restrain self-interest, individual and collective, for the sake of the community.

I know you are no fan of the secular Jewish Road Warrior of the 1960's, but I LOVE Abbie Hoffman for quoting Christ to the children of the '60's who had planned on spending the night in a city park after their long day of 'lobbying' at the 1968 Democratic Convention.
Mayor Daly sent word to Abbie that the multitudes were not welcome in his park and the cops were on the way in.
Before the Chicago mob with badges clobbered the heads of the children of the '60's in, Abbie stood at a microphone and said:
"I send you out like little lambs into a wolves den. Remain as harmless as doves and cunning as snakes."
If the doves had consulted Webster's, they first would have had a laugh at the two words cunning is sandwiched between.
Then they would have learned that cunning means one must be skillful, clever, sly, crafty, and do things with skill and ingenuity. To be cunning is to be attractive; cute and cleverly proficient.
Nothing has changed much since 1968, for power continues to resort to violence and nonviolent resistance-and challenging the conventional 'wisdom' requires cunning.

I'm Sorry Eileen, But...
...I honestly believe that your approach may appeal to a small slice of the liberal base, but not beond that. Abbie Hoffman also had a rather manipulative side to him that the average American will never identify with. Beyond that, he is not the person to cite if you want to reach what Arthur M. Schelsinger, Jr. called "the vital center." I want to reach the family of four making 40K a year living somewhere in the Midwest. That is how elections are won and progressive policies emacted into law.
We have to build a movement that can go toe-to-toe with Focus on the Family, the EPPC and the IRD; 1960s-style exhortations and flowery quotes just won't cut--and neither will fools such as Alan B. Colmes.

I do NOT speak for lefty levi, but i intuited his point about not BASHING anyone who is articulating a broader message than the right wing discourse-to mean be grateful for the little things!
And instead of looking to any of these same old same old pundits you have listed,
why not look within at ourselves to "be the change we want to see in the world"-Gandhi
