Not That Simple.
While you seem to attribute the cause of failing mainsteam media solely to corporate control ("We have an uninformed, misinformed America because the MSM is NOT DOING ITS JOB!!! THE MSM is controlled by a handful of comglomerates"), I think that it is more complex than that.
An even bigger reason is that for a long time we failed to educate ourselves properly. Schools stopped emphasizing courses on government and civics, while the arts and sciences were neglected. In other words, we slacked off in teaching a generation or two about logical thinking. That, more than anything else allows the sophistry of a Limbaugh, a Hannity, a Maureen Dowd or an Ann Coulter to take root as accepted fact.
Democracy takes effort, as does liberalism. As a people, Americans have fallen short. Conspiracy theory is easy to do; self-introspection is harder.
And what did JFK say back in 1962? I think it was, "We choose to go to the Moon and do the other things in this decade, not because they are easy but because they are hard.
