Network of Spiritual Progressives: Generosity Sunday
Dear friends,
It is time for a whole new approach to national defense. Our attempts to keep the United States safe by dominating and controlling the rest of the world are not only ineffective (as evidenced by the growing anti-American sentiment in Iraq and around the world), but they run counter to the deepest yearnings of our hearts to care for other people rather than hurt them. We recognize that our own well-being as Americans is tied up in the well-being of all of the peoples of the planet and of the planet itself. It is time for a new paradigm of national defense and homeland security, one of generosity and care rather than domination and control.
We are working with the Network of Spiritual Progressives and many other peace and social justice organizations to coordinate a national day of action around this effort to shift our foreign policy to eliminating poverty and caring for the environment rather than waging war. That day is Sunday, April 15, 2007, and we're calling it Generosity Sunday. There are so many ways for you to get involved—from collecting signatures on postcards to involving your faith community to organizing an alternative, spiritually focused peace demonstration to making a donation. Visit http://www.spiritualprogressives.org/article.php?story=20061207105532221 for more information about how to help.
Be sure to post what you are doing at http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/Tikkun/event/distributedEventSignup.jsp?distributed_event_KEY=43 so that we can support your efforts.
Thanks for your involvement and for helping to shift the security paradigm in the United States.
