Media Matters Stands Up for Religious Progressives: Sign the Petition!
Go to Media Matters for America which has a great piece on the under-representation of religious progressives n the media.
Here is a sample:
It would surprise few people, conservative or progressive, to learn that coverage of the intersection of religion and politics tends to oversimplify both. If this oversimplification occurred to the benefit or detriment of neither side of the political divide, then the weaknesses in coverage of religion would be of only academic interest. But as this study documents, coverage of religion not only overrepresents some voices and underrepresents others, it does so in a way that is consistently advantageous to conservatives.
This is a very important piece. Please take the time to read it and more importantly, please sign the petition.

Take A Moment to Visit MEDIA MATTERS FOR AMERICA
Media Matters for America is an excellent site and they do very necessary work. With all the laziness of today's "journalists" they help set the record straight.
And if you can, help them out with a donation. They are a great resource for liberals.
It also gives us a chance to look at ourselves
The interesting thing to me about the report is less what it said about the media (it has been clear for awhile that conservatives are overrepresented in the media, especially around issues of faith), but what it says about us as a progressive faith community. We are not nearly as diverse as we need to be. Where are the women voices? where are the youth? Where are the minority voices beyond Jesse and Rev. Al? We have a lot of more work to lift the diverse voices we know exist within out community.
Good Observation Steve
Indeed it does gives us the chance to look at ourselves. It is also something of a breakthrough, one of the real first examples of the secular Left reaching out to the Religious Left.
Good Information
That was interesting information, thanks. I signed the petition. I wonder, of the percentage of liberal and/or progressive voices that are heard in the media, how much of that is Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.
(Digesssing a bit)Has anybody else ever thought of how racist it is for the media to rush to Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton and ask them to speak for the enite African American community. We would never tolerate one or two ministers speaking for the enitre "caucasian" community.
