Overview

Catholics United - a national online community of Catholics committed to building a society based on justice, peace and the common good - is seeking a Director of Online Organizing to oversee its Internet operations, and to coordinate launch of a major new collaborative initiative against the Iraq War.

This is a six-month contract position, with opportunity for permanent hire.

Location

Catholics United is a "virtual" organization with physical presence in Boston, MA, Portland, ME, and Washington, DC. The Director of Online Organizing need not reside in these locations, but must live within the continental United States and be available for work at 9 am, Eastern Time.

Compensation

Salary negotiable; includes full medical and dental benefits.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in using the Internet as an organizing tool, above-average technical skills, an ability to work independently and without direct supervision, and a passion for social justice. Necessary qualifications include:

Undergraduate degree, or equivalent experience.

A proven ability to write concisely and persuasively.

Experience with labor, netroots, or political organizing.

Experience working with online media.

Ability to work with the press.

Familiarity with the Catholic social tradition.

Preferred qualifications:

Web and graphic design experience.

Experience with paid advertising campaigns.

Fluency in Spanish.

Duties

The Director of Online Organizing is responsible for managing all aspects of online issue campaigns, including:

Drafting action and funding appeals to constituents. (50%)

Drafting press releases and other public communications. (20%)

Tracking membership performance. (10%)

Liaising with partner organizations. (10%)

With Executive Director, identifying strategic opportunities and creating and executing organizing campaigns. (10%)

Other duties as assigned.
