Action Alert: "Impeachment." There, we said it.

Tell Congress to impeach Cheney now.

Over the weekend, the American Research Group asked 1,100 people a simple question: “Do you favor or oppose the US House of Representatives beginning impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney?” And 54% said they did.1

There are plenty of reasons not to impeach the Vice President -- "it would be a diversion of energy", "divisive", "would never succeed," etc. But those are tactical debates for pundits. As citizens we have a more important responsibility. You know that Mr. Cheney misled the American people and the Congress, and twisted the nation's intelligence services, to get our nation into an unprovoked war.

If you think those acts amount to "high crimes," you should sign the petition and tell your Representative.

Robert Greenwald at BraveNew films has summarized the case against Mr. Cheney in a damning 3 1/2 minute video. It was already the most-viewed video on YouTube last weekend -- watch it, and tell your friends about it, to keep this message spreading.

Impeachment is a serious matter. We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this, and believe that now is the right time to act. Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney (H. Res. 333)2 have already been drafted and submitted to the House Judiciary Committee. Now it’s up to Congress to decide whether or not to move forward. The Articles of Impeachment laid out in H. Res. 333 are as follows:

I. The Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the U.S. Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.
II. The Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda in order to justify the use of the U.S. Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.
III. In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and done so with the United State’s proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security of the United States.3

We’re at an important moment in American history. For if we don't take action in light of the ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ committed by Vice President Cheney, we might as well throw the constitution away. That’s why now’s the time for Congress to act and move forward with articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney. So sign the petition today.

Sincerely,

Matt, Ben H., Darcy, Chris & Ben K.

time for impeachment?

I definitely think its time for Cheney to go. He continues to think he is above the law in some odd space that is neither the executive or legislative branch. What do you all think?
