Thanksgiving is only a few days away and by the time you wake up from your tryptophan-induced nap, it'll be almost time for ONE Sabbath. One Sabbath is ONE's initiative to expand the impact of individuals and communities of faith in the fight against extreme poverty and global disease.
2007 is the pilot year for ONE Sabbath and already congregations of different faiths in communities across the country have downloaded ONE Sabbath materials and committed to holding their own ONE Sabbath service, small group or youth group activity on the ONE Sabbath weekend this November 23—25.
Even if you can't participate this weekend, the fight to end extreme poverty and global disease doesn't have an expiration date. The materials and resources available to help engage your faith community, raise awareness and take action will be there when you and your congregation are ready.
Visit ONE.org/faith/materials.html to download toolkits that will help you organize a ONE Sabbath event.
ONE isn't doing this alone. We know that people of faith are already taking action to make poverty history. That's why we are working with our faith partners to make more resources available and create more opportunities for your community of faith to do this critical work.
Learn more about the work ONE's faith partners are already doing and how you can make them a part of your ONE Sabbath.
This year's ONE Sabbath is just the beginning. We're counting on you to tell us what works and what doesn't as we get ready to take the fight to make poverty history to every church, synagogue, mosque and temple in the country next year.
In Peace,
Mark, Aaron, Margaret and the ONE Sabbath Team
P.S. If you are participating in ONE Sabbath this weekend, make sure to take pictures upload them to the ONE Sabbath Flickr group here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/537852@N25 and send us an email telling us how it went to faith@one.org
