Action Alert: Heat or food?

Tell the Senate:Heat or food is not an acceptable choice
The Energy Department estimates that it will cost the average American a record $977 to heat their homes this year -- with those people who rely on heating oil as their energy source being the hardest hit.1 Fortunately, there's a federal program that helps the people who need it most pay their heating bills. Unfortunately, the program is being funded now at almost the same level (in real dollars) as it was in 1982.2 That's why Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will be introducing legislation when Congress comes back next week that would boost funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program by $1 billion. Tell your Senators that no American should have to decide between food and heat:. http://act.truemajorityaction.org/winterheat?campaign_KEY=1214 There is an ideological war going on in America right now. There are those, like our President, who believe that government exists to help their buddies in the oil industry rake in record profits, and there are those who believe that government exists to serve people. This winter many Americans will be faced with a decision they should never have to make: putting food on the table or paying the heat bill. But it doesn't have to be that way. Tell your Senators to support increased funding for the LIHEAP program today. Stay warm, Ben Kroetz 1. "High heating costs will burn wallets in '07," CNN, October 9, 2007 |
