Yesterday was the fith aniversary of Powell's speech before the U.N.
Yesterday, February 5th, was, of course, Super Tuesday.
But, as the historian Howard Zinn has pointed out, elections have the habit of distracting us from larger issues.
Yesterday was also the aniversary of the following speech:

That would be correct, Dear Reader.
Yesterday was the anniversary of Colin Powell's speech before the United Nations, in which he laid out the case for war with Iraq.
Mr. Powell, of course, has since criticized this administration's disastrous policies. It seems that he, like the rest of this nation, was mislead by guys he thought he could trust.
In related news, this is an exchange between Press secretary Dana Perino and a reporter:
Q Dana, today is the fifth anniversary of Colin Powell's U.N. presentation on Iraq. I'm wondering whether you think the intel reforms that we've seen since then make a repeat of that kind of blunder impossible.
MS. PERINO: I didn't realize that was the anniversary today. I'm glad you keep tabs on it. think there is no doubt that this administration took a lot of input from a lot of different places -- independent commissions, including the WMD commission, to establish reforms throughout the intelligence community, which are working very well. And I remember Fran Townsend, at her last briefing here before she left, indicated that in her experience that the agencies were giving -- sharing a lot more information and that was making our nation safer.
So, I'm guessing we won't be getting that "oops, my bad," from President Bush and Company any time soon

Team Man
I too respected Powell until that U.N. speech. An explanantion given was all those military years influenced Powell and once a plan is formulated and the mission is defined all the players must get on board and faithfully obey orders to successfully execute the plan.
Powell need to transcend all those years of military training, just as the G.I. who won't torture, or rape, or kill innocent people just becasue the other guys are doing it. He had the intelligence and the position to do that. The great commander failed on what was his last big mission.
Speaking of African Americans who could go all the way to the Presidency, Powell might have been able to do that. He had tremendous respect and credibility.
in our dreams...
I don't think we will ever hear "oops, my bad" from Bush & Co. about anything. They seem to be unable to go down that street.
Now Colin Powell did say it. But the rest of the old gang will never. I did pick up a little respect for Powell when he did apologize and all but say he was forced to make that speech. Not nearly the amount of esteem I'd held him in previously though, seems like you should know when you're being used and being fed lies to represent when it was speech time.
They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. — Isaiah 2:4 & Micah 4:3
Powell's credibility
Colin Powell has lost all credibility. He supported a war he knew was wrong. He presented information that was certainly questionable.
