A Cabinet Level Department of Peace Can Become Reality
The purpose of The Peace Alliance is to build support in the United States Congress for a cabinet level Department of Peace. Exactly three months before 9/11, Dennis Kucinich introduced this legislation in the House of Representatives. The Peace Alliance website is:

Shortly after Kucinich introduced his legislation, The Peace Alliance was formed by Marianne Williamson, an internationally known author, in order to build momentum for this Department of Peace. This is a grassroots organization offering the opportunity for all Americans to get involved on a consistent basis.
Kucinich's Department of Peace bill is comprehensive and addresses all levels and types of violence at the systemic level. It provides training in positive, peaceful ways to avoid the need for violence, beginning in kindergarten and continuing through college. All Americans would grow up knowing how to cope positively with problems, how to cooperate with others in discovering solutions that work for all concerned. Thinking in terms of peace, rather violence, would become second nature.
Learning to seek peaceful solutions at the systemic level sets the stage for Americans to work together in insuring that every American has the opportunity to fulfill their inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It creates a widespread basis for international cooperation, rather than war.
The Peace Alliance is an excellent source of training for those who desire to work for peace and the betterment of life for all Americans and for our planet. The Conferences are informative and offer the opportunity to meet and talk with experts in the field and our representatives in Congress--to gain actual experience in striving to get this legislation passed. The Peace Alliance members walk the halls of congress together. Kucinich and Marianne Williamson work closely together to establish this Department of Peace.

The Prince of Peace and Killing
Yes Nancy I am always amazed at the number of people that want to kill for God, or kill for Jesus. How unlike the message of peace that Jesus taught. Until Constantine got hold of it, most members of "The Way", the Jewish sect of Jesus's followers were pacifists.
If they would only think the concept of killing for God through a minute,they might change their minds. God being God, doesn't need our help in killing anyone. Those that want to kill for God are insane.

Nancy, thank you for this post. I am a Veteran for Peace and whenever I show a movie or host or attend a peace meeting I display Department of Peace literature. It would certaintly be a worthy cause for Crossleft to endorse, don't you think? I can't of anything more Christlike than supporting peace. Is the perecentage that the DOP wants 10% of the Department of Defense's budget or is it 1 %?
I do so admire both Kucinich and Marianne.Have you ever read 'A Course in Miracles", Marianne's primary spiritual reference source?

I quote the Dept. of Peace legislation, Section 113:
"There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this Act for a fiscal year beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act an amount equal to at least 2 percent of the total amount appropriated for that fiscal year for the Dept. of Defense."
As with everything Kucinich writes, I could preach any number of sermons based on this piece of legislation. The man is a spiritual giant.

I have often puzzled over the conflict between Christians claiming to follow the "Prince of Peace" while they suppport violence as a means of solving conflicts. Violence begets more violence. The Dept. of Peace legislation offers a Path of Peace that truly allows Christians to walk in the footsteps of the Prince of Peace. We can work for peace by simply recognizing there is an alternative! Peace begets more peace!
Why are not all Christians in our nation standing for the Prince of Peace via supporting the Department of Peace legislation?
