As a newcomer to Crossleft, I would like to know who is who?
What type of "people" structure maintains Crossleft?

The People Structure that Supports CrossLeft: You & Me
Nancy, To your question, the people structure that supports CrossLeft has for years been volunteers like you, Steve, Rich and the countless others who spend time here on this site. People who want to give of their time, gifts and energy, whatever those might be. In the near term, we would like to set the groundwork (& fundraising work) necessary to fund a staff, but at present it is truly a grassroots effort made up of volunteers. I note that you said that you pay a webmaster so you can not help in that way, but perhaps there is some other way that you would like to help? Please consider letting us know what that may be. :-) At the risk of sounding too bold here, I must tell you that we welcome any & all contributions of time, vision, energy and yes- money, as they will all fuel our success in the short, mid and long term. (& that goes for anyone else who was wondering/interested in helping.) In thanks, Kety
Wow, Steve
Wow, Steve, after Rich's account, I feel the need to say "THANK YOU!" What a tremendous service you are offering to our world, not just Progressive Christians.
I pay a webmaster, so can be no help in that way.
May you be mightily blessed! I remember reading that you wanted to start a movement. I do believe you have!
Yes. Wow, Steve indeed!
Here here. I second that. Wow, Steve indeed! Were it not for your perseverance and steadfast commitment to this vision (not to mention the countless hours of volunteer time that you've poored into this work) the CrossLeft community/site would not be what it is. Thank you for giving us this gift Steve. In love and gratitude, always, Kety

CL staff?
Well Nancy it is essentially just one person, Steve Rockwell. It is he who maintains it, keeps it up dated, finds the monthly books the site recommends, is Editor of the Progressive Christian Newsletter and a whole ton of other technological stuff. Jim Ramelis and I are now trying to help him by taking on some of the easier stuff like welcoming new members and the like. Neither Jim nor I have the techie skills to do lift the heavy weights.
And he did all the initial site creation stuff last year or two while completing a double Masters Degree program, one from MIT and the other from Harvard. One degree was in Public Administraion and the other an MBA degree. Just about a year ago this month he graduated from MIT one night and Harvard the next. Heavy weight dude!, with a great loving heart. Next January he will wed his Panamanian lady, Julie, in her home country all the while earning a living an Executive Director for a Boston non-profit org. and serving as volunteer ED for The IPC.
(This was an unsolicited commendation for which I received no compensation! Thank you :) )
I will tell you this, if you hadn't guessed it by now, Steve is carrying a lot of water for CL. He could REALLY use some help. He'll gladly let someone else have all the fun. For folks of Jim's generation and mine this techie stuff is an add on skill while for Steve and Kety's generation it is just the nature of things so to speak. We need to clone Steve or at least get someone with the same techie skills to help Steve or take on the whole shebang.
Anyone out there want to paint CrossLeft's fence? Lots of fun, very rewarding and you get to know a whole world of fellow techies. Steve'll gladly introduce you to them, right Steve?
Come on now, don't be shy, just step onto the diving board and jump in, the waters fine.
Rich
thanks everyone
Thanks everyone for their kinds words. I do all the backend stuff, but this has really been a community effort and its been great to see this online community grow and thrive.
We're probably the 3rd largest online progressive faith community in terms of traffic, active members, etc. I continue to be impressed with the quality of what people have to say on our site and the depth of connections that people have made. The IPC was built through the connections people made through CrossLeft.
I share Jim's interest though in getting more active and ensuring the CrossLeft becomes the MoveOn of progressive Christianity. To do so, will require that we become much more sophisticated in terms of technology. I do think we need to move towards hiring a tech. intern to do some of the tech. work so that we can
To do so would mean that we need to raise a bit more money. I really do need to hand off some of these technological responsibilities.
There's lots of marketing that David Stefan has been really helpful with and its something that we all could do to support the development of our community. For example, crosspost your post on another site like dailykos.com with a link to the original article on CrossLeft. We could all begin posting on clicking the share link on the bottom of posts to get articles listed on social news websites.
I also think a CrossLeft board will be helpful in moving an action agenda forward and maintaining the site.
There's lots of good energy...let's keep it going!
