CrossLeft.org, CNN and Immigrant Campaign

There are moments in our life when we are presented with the opportunity to make a difference. We are given the chance to choose to take action or to stand idly by watching injustice. At such moments, Christians before us have chosen to invest the time, energy and financial resources necessary to take action. The abolitionists, the supporters of the Civil Rights movement, they have all in their own time been the prophetic ushers of a better world.

We are now, again, poised at such a moment. The issue which faces all of us today is the plight of the undocumented. The recent raids by ICE and the scandal surrounding the illegal oppression of the Postville workers- many of them undocumented migrants who were afraid to protest for fear of being deported- have reminded us that today we are presented with another struggle which as Christians we are obligated to face.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to be on CNN representing CrossLeft.org and progressive Christianity. This was not a random interview on the street, but rather a studio interview for a live broadcast of American Morning (CNN's morning news show).

As a progressive Christian it gave me great pleasure to represent a vision of Progressive Christianity, a Christianity which honors Jesus' mandate that we care for the least of these our brothers and sisters.

It was a phenomenally exciting moment when the anchor who was beginning to say Conservative Christian, had to correct herself to say Progressive Christian as she introduced me and CrossLeft.org.

As Christians, we at CrossLeft.org have made it a point to stand in solidarity with our migrant brothers and sisters. The Bible makes it perfectly clear what our role is as it comes to the alien. As progressive Christians we have an opportunity to step up and be like the Good Samaritan. We ask you to please do so and support our campaign now.

The CNN interview was about our position on the topic of immigration and our involvement on a survey composed by all of the editors of the Sanctuary for the presidential candidates. At CrossLeft.org we have stood up on behalf of the migrant because we believe that individually and collectively we can accomplish something great, in the same way that our forefathers and our foremothers did before us in the fight against slavery and again during the Civil Rights Movement. Our opportunity to live out our faith comes in the plight of the undocumented worker who comes to this land in search of a better life for their families.

We write you today to not only celebrate this tremendous victory for Progressive Christianity and CrossLeft.org but also to ask you to help us make good on the promise of what Progressive Christianity holds for the world at this critical moment.

We would like to ask you to contribute to our pro-human rights, pro-migrant campaign.

We will be using these donated funds to support a campaign through which we will draft a Statement of Solidarity with Immigrant Populations and conduct outreach to churches across the U.S. to build a co-ordinated effort. If successful, we will be helping to build the infrastructure that will support the pro-migrant, pro-human rights movement.

Please choose to make a difference and donate.

Sincerely,
Kety Esquivel, founder
CrossLeft.org
