Immigrant Advocates Condemn Recent Raids in Mississippi – Urge to stop raids and deportations and demand real solutions

On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, the Department of Homeland Security prepared to descend on another community for another massive raid, this time in Laurel Mississippi. "It is a shame that at a time of celebration by the Democratic party where the family theme has became central, hundreds of other families are suffering because they are being broken apart," said Joshua Hoyt, ICIRR Executive Director.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office has informed that they will continue with enforcement tactics targeting over 457,000 immigrants with no criminal records. "This piecemeal approach that only serves to terrorize workers and families that do not pose any threat to this country has got to stop," Hoyt added. ICIRR will continue to urge elected officials to push for just and humane solutions that would bring legalization for undocumented students, workers and their families. Last week, ICIRR and other allies announced the Ya Basta! Campaign calling on for the end to the separation of families and calling on the urgent need for just and humane immigration reform.
