Speaking of Keith and Sarah

Last night, Sarah Silverman was a guest on Countdown -- part of promoting her new show on Comedy Central. She was uncharacteristically restrained -- which is the way I prefer her. Mostly, she was talking about her viral video, The Great Schlep, a sorta gross, sorta funny pitch for young Jews to travel to Florida to convince their conservative grandparents to vote for Obama. Like so much Comedy Central stuff (and other comedy aimed at the youth demographic), it combines too much of what I consider gratuitous grossness with quite a bit of sharp, wry humor.

Anyway, after that bit, Keith asked her about the other Sarah, Sarah Palin. She produced what might be considered the ultimate put-down:

"Sarah Palin.....she's as off-putting and gross as a pageant contestant, but without the desire for world peace."

Funny, but, from a pious point of view, I guess it could be criticized as being tacky -- as it could be considered simply personally demeaning. Yet it does highlight some real elements of Palin's style as well as her belligerent (and theocratic) political views and tactics. See Talk to Action's "Links to Information and Documentaries on Palin's Churches".

The latest story, not yet on that list, is about her "prayer warrior" connections and is quite interesting and worrisome: http://www.talk2action.org/story/2008/10/8/121647/107/Front_Page/Palin_i...
