An Election Day Prayer
Dear Lord,
I come before You today with an anxious heart, yet brimming with hope. I know you are a merciful and just God, so I ask for You to cover our electoral process here in America with Your grace. Let the sun shine across the land as people exercise their right to vote and may every vote be counted with accuracy. Lord, I confess that as a nation, we have veered far from the course of justice and mercy that You have decreed. So, I ask today for Your forgiveness and restoration of America. Help us to strive to honor You and the generations that have gone before us in this nation that You have blessed with such material richness and freedom.
As we vote to change leadership today, may You grant us an outcome that will bring a righteous shift in direction....one that will seek peace rather than war...one that will seek to uplift the poor rather than hold them down....one that will generate a greater concern and help for the sick, the elderly and the disenfranchised. Grant us leadership that will seek to be good stewards of this beautiful green planet upon which we dwell.
Lord, I pray that you will take this divided and polarized nation and breathe a new Spirit of unity into our hearts and I pray for this to begin within the people who esteem the Name of Jesus. Forgive us all for the many hateful and fear driven thoughts, words and deeds we have indulged in over the last years of our nation's history and grant us a new hope and humble desire to work for peace, justice, mercy and love.
I ask all this in Jesus Holy Name,
Amen.

very touching and inspirational prayer.
i'm praying for an Obama win for that change in direction of which you speak. its interesting that out of the some of our nation's darkest times, we find great hope and inspiration in not only the candidate but the tremendous movement of people who are working on the campaign and others in the churches and in the nonprofit sector who are serving those in need.
