Fwd: Rallying Christian Progressives

Friends,
The theme(s) that are coming to light here, in my purview; are
those of speaking prophetically on the one hand and loving gracefully on the
other.
As people of faith, and faltering followers of Jesus, both of
those tasks are set before us, and both are supremely important.
As Christians who hold to a “progressive” faith,
many of us see value in and consider it our calling to speak prophetically.
We have but to remember our forbears, those prophetic voices through the ages;
those who have challenged the status quo and championed justice for the
marginalized to see just how important that leadership has been in our own
spiritual heritage. Following in those footsteps, how can we not
speak truth to power?
On the other hand, we are also commanded to love one another, even
as Christ loved us. Both are our heritage. How do we
remain true to both of those elements of our heritage? I honestly
do not know. Like all of us, I try to work it out day by day.

speaking prophetically and loving gracefully
The most profound summary I have ever encountered.
