Congressional Voting Manipulation

Earlier today I learned that the Republicans are once again attempting to manipulate the passage of legislation that would allow drilling in Alaska by attaching it to a funding bill for the military. I am thoroughly fed up with the practice of attaching unrelated bills to other bills in order to force passage. It truly undermines our basic democratic principles of representation. I think one of the best services we could render would be to develop a campaign to eliminate this wretched practice altogether. What do you think? Below is a letter I sent to my senators. Pilgrim Dear Senator: As a citizen I am fed up with the practice that bills are added to other bills as a way to manipulate their passage rather than being considered independently and passed or voted down on their own merits. Case in point is the never ending legislation to drill for oil in Anwar. Now I learn that it has been attached to the appropriation bill to fund the military. This is a terrible way to govern and those in Congress who manipulate passage of bills in this way should be censured and called out for other disciplinary action. This has been going on far too long and it is being overused by this Congress to the extent that the practice needs to be voted down. We elect people to go to Congress to represent us. We pay Senators and Representatives a decent salary and this is what we get in return?! I want my money back! PKirk
