State of the Union: Bush's Folly

I can't begin to say how disgraceful the performance was. As usual, filled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations. But the thing that sent chills down my spine was his reference to the collection of medical records on US citizens under the guise of using the information to provide better health care choices for Americans. The march toward facism continues ever onward.

Pleased as anything to hear Gov. Kaine's responses on behalf of the Democrats that FINALLY begins to address the issue of service. They called the march to war for what it was... a mission based on inaccuracies and misrepresentation. The Democrats emphasized civility even in our disagreements... something which the Republicans seem incapable of. The Republicans still fail to understand that the Democratic approach and the Republican approach to governance and values is rife with disagreement on a fundamental level.

Bush's performance in the SOTU was full of the promises of a man who has no idea that he has no capital left, no money left, and no credibility left. How can he still tout the successes of No Child Left Behind?! Thank goodness Kaine made clear the exact shortcomings of this statement and the real challenges that the States are facing trying to fund a federal program left unfunded.

The thing that struck me most about the whole evening's performance is that, yet again, the man is given a forum for spouting lies, a forum to mislead the American public, and a forum to speak in coded words designed to appeal to the conservative base. The whole speech might have been labeled:

"Bush uses State of the Union" to assure conservatives that all is going according to plan." The rest of us be damned.
