THE RISEN CHRIST
Submitted by Octavio on Wed, 04/11/2007 - 09:28Christ is a promise of peace to the world when He is born. He presents peace as a salutation and himself also as gift when introducing him, risen from the tomb to his new life. Justice and peace in the hands of Christ seem to be issues He has taken care of by dying and resurrecting. Actually in the hands of those who might be disciples responsible for the mission of justice and peace in the world by the Spirit of God, working out in action what Christ personally has accomplished. After more than twothouand years of Christianity what can be done by Christians loyal to Christ facing the complexities of the world for peace today? Would be necessary for him to come back, either to avoid or resolve the consequences of a final world. And what about the peace of each and one individual soul under the menacing intoxication and pollution of the unhealthy environment making almost impossible the existence of real individual justice and peace?
If I were preaching on Easter. . . (Larry James' Urban Daily)
Submitted by centraldallas on Sat, 04/07/2007 - 14:12I've been wrestling with Jesus for almost 50 years.
I mean, the guy has this way of getting all over you, under your skin, moving inside your head and never letting go!
The longer I have studied, listened to and observed him in the biblical record, in terms of his historical impact and in regard to the effect he has had on my own life and world, the more convinced I am that most people don't really understand him, what he said or who he was.

"The first twelve years Mohammed spent in Mecca he practiced nonviolent resistance. He was persecuted but always prayed: 'God forgive them, they do not know what they are doing.'

Why the Silence Around Gender Murder?
Submitted by Religious Institute on Fri, 03/30/2007 - 07:05Ruby Ordena was found murdered last week in the San Francisco Mission District, and I want to know why more of us haven't heard that. She was a 27 year old transgender Latina and according to Gender Pac, hers was at least the 50th known violent murder of a transgender person since 1995.
"Ruby's murder is not an exception. Gender non-conforming young people – who have often been shut out of employment, housing, and safe environments because of their gender identity or expression – are dying at a rate of about one every three months," said Riki Wilchins, Executive Director of the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition (GenderPAC). "We mourn the tragic loss of yet another young life."

Hopes and Challenges Flow from Arab Diplomatic Surge:Churches for Mid East Peace:

Churches for Middle East Peace
President George Bush tried to bring democracy to the Middle East and fundamentally change the region by transforming the appeal of radical Muslim ideology into a quest for American-style freedom and liberty. But his Lone Ranger approach has failed, miserably. As ill-conceived strategies to create a new Iraq opened the door to a Sunni-Shia civil war, allies of the United States walked away and anti-Americanism has soared.

Introducing the IPC Academic Review Panel Featured Blog
Submitted by Academic Review... on Wed, 03/28/2007 - 14:10Dear Crossleft Community, The Institute for Progressive Christianity, fashioned out of the CrossLeft community approximately two years ago is a Christian think tank that ecumenically weaves together the progressive Christians of Orthodox, Catholic, Evangelical, Mainline Protestant, and Liberal backgrounds. In its two years of existence it has been gathering momentum toward a faithful, inspired, impassioned and yet reasoned and analytical articulation of Christianity as a progressive journey of greater love and justice toward others and a deeper personal communion with God. The Academic Review Panel is the work group at the IPC charged with incubating, generating and supporting the products of the IPC.

Rapid Response: Health Care for America's Children
Submitted by Stephen Rockwell on Tue, 03/27/2007 - 15:03"The moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped." Hubert H. Humphrey (with a nod from every religious leader known to humanity)

A Place to Call "Home" (by Larry James)

A Place to Call "Home"
"I sleep on the street," William told us. "I cover up with my blankets. My blankets are precious to me because of the cold. One night last week, I woke up and realized there was another person under my blankets with me! A perfect stranger just trying to stay warm. He meant me no harm at all!"
